Oklahoma Courthouse Legends
Experience the excitement of Oklahoma's turbulent history and the role Oklahoma's courthouses played in it. In words and pictures, Oklahoma Courthouse Legends tells stories that are handed down and sometimes even embellished around Oklahoma's courthouses. Photographer, David Fitzgerald and author, Kent F. Frates have collaborated to populate the book with a rich historical cast of fearless lawman, ferocious prosecutors, clever lawyers, noted judges, evil criminals and noteworthy politicians.
Marshall Bill Tighlman, "Machine Gun" Kelly, "Pretty Boy Floyd", Temple Houston and Belle Starr are just some of the people chronicled in the book. Likewise, many of the dedicated county officers and employees who do the work of county government are portrayed. You will also get a glimpse of the trial of Governor David Hall, the integration of Oklahoma University Law School, the capture of Timothy McVeigh and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall's court appearances in the Sooner State.
Each courthouse has its own appearance and character which is captured by Fitzgerald's photographs of Oklahoma's seventy-seven county courthouses and four United States District Courthouses.
